Establishing Classroom Rules and Creating a Positive Environment
During the first week of school, we will spend time modeling and practicing procedures for basic routines. We will also establish guidelines for group discussions.
Students will be asked what their hopes and dreams are for this year. (ex: What would you like to accomplish this year?) Time will be spent brainstorming ideas and then each child will be asked to choose his/her most important hope or dream. A list of all students’ hopes and dreams will be made .
After establishing their hopes and dreams, a discussion will be held about what rules we need to help us all reach our goals. A long list of positively stated rules will be generated and then placed into three categories.
Categories:
These statements will be combined and simplified into a list of 4-5 rules for the classroom. These will be posted in the classroom and observed for the rest of the year.
